Do You Really Trust God?

Trust_GodThis past weekend I taught on Trust: because choosing to ‘Trust’ God will revolutionize your life. I wanted to relay the message to anyone who missed Sunday, or wanted the main points in writing.

We are in the series ‘Beyond Reason,’ because God can go beyond what we think.  During the service, I laid out a few verses during the message using the image of a ladder. Each verse building upon another verse and not complete without each other.

TRUST
“Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed” [Psalm 37:3]  You must build your life by trusting in the Lord. You must lean and rely on Him, being confident in God. God is not like a man, He will not lie to you. What He says, He will bring to pass. He will then provide for us.

DELIGHT
“Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” [Psalm 37:4]  The next step on the ladder is learning to delight yourself in God. When you truly trust Him, you have the ability to find happiness in the Lord. Through this supernatural exchange, God will give you the desires of your heart.

COMMIT
“Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass and he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday” [Psalm 37:5-6]  Once you’re walking in trust and delighting yourself in God, then it’s time to step up and commit your life to the work of God. It’s time to be the living example of His power and Love.  Once you have given yourself to the Lord, trusting in him, He will help you.

REST
“Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass” [Psalm 37:7]  You’re almost to the top of the ladder. You have learned to trust,  found happiness in God and to commit your life to Christ: now you have to learn to how to rest. You must learn to relax in all situations of life. It’s time to rest in the fact that God is in control and that all your needs will be met.

LET GO
“Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil” [Psalm 37:8]  Being just a step away from the top of the ladder has made you a stronger person. You have done what most people cannot do: Joyfully and without stress,  placing everything in your life in the Hands of God. This last step is hard to take. You have to let go of anger! You must forgive the past hurts and wrongs that are haunting you. It’s time to stop allowing those things from your past to knock you off the ladder.

INHERIT
“For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth” [Psalm 37:9]  This is the part that everyone wants, but many never make it to the top of the ladder because somewhere in the climb they were stopped.

Ask yourself these questions. Have you ever?

  • Questioned God – lack of Trust
  • Been discouraged  – lack of Delight
  • Dedicate yourself only when it’s convenient – lack of Commitment
  • You have no patience or worry – lack of Rest
  • You’re angry – haven’t Let Go

Now it’s time to understand which step you’re on, and how to take the next step. Even if you have to pause to take a breath when you’re climbing, don’t give up. Remember that you will receive God’s promise to Inherit the earth.

You will find as you walk in trust, obedience and patiently wait on the Lord, He will give you the desires of your heart. You will inherit all those things here on earth, that you need for a victorious life.
