The BIG Trap
So many times we find ourselves believing that only the big things in life can make us happy. We believe if only we had a big house, a great job, dream vacation, etc., we would be happy. In reality, our daily activities contribute most to our happiness. Instead of focusing on ‘if only,’ focus on finding something small each day that will actually make you feel happy. We must stop looking at what others have and see what God has given us! The Bible says ‘it is better to have little and be godly than to own an evil man’s wealth’ [Psalm 37:16].
I choose to look for the small things in life to find happiness. I find joy when I hear a baby laugh. I’m happy I can open the door for someone whose hands are full. I enjoy seeing the smile on an elderly person’s face when they receive a Valentine’s card through the East-West Church’s outreach. It’s even leaving the grocery store to look up to see the glory of a beautiful sky that brings me happiness. Our life is filled with the little things that can bring eternal joy, but we just have to look for them.
Stop focusing on what you don’t have and realize what you do. Stop allowing others to bring you down and start looking for those little things that bring you joy. Stop focusing on a person’s faults and start finding their good qualities, yes everyone has some.
Today I encourage you to take time to find those little things you have over looked. Begin to be thankful for what you have, and thank God for the little things that bring to you a Big life.
