See U . . . ?
Today I went on one of my wife’s many excursions. We were on a quest to buy supplies for the Church which took us into several stores. [Think you know where this is going?]
As we stood in line at the checkout counter, the person in front of us had difficulties in their transaction. As we approached the register, the lady at the counter said “I’m so sorry for the wait.” We understood the situation and I said it was no problem, we all know where we’re headed, and she quickly responded to something that charged my thoughts.
She said “I know where I’m going” and I responded I do too. Then I asked the cheerful checkout lady “what church do you attend?” She replied the name of her church and added “that is when I go.”
With the spirit of Give, Act, Serve and Inspire I invited her to East-West Church. She knew where it was and sounded interested. As we walked out the door I said “hope to see you” and her response was one that caught my spiritual attention. The women responded “I’ll see you when I need you.” My wife and I just looked at each other and agreed this is what’s wrong with the Church today. “See you when we need you?” What if Jesus felt that way about us. I’ll see you when I need you, until then you are on your own.
Are you a “see you when I need you” person? Do you only go to church to take and never to give? Do you attend for prayer or to be a prayer warrior? Do you only attend when you’re in trouble or are you in church to help others?
Paul said “And do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light” [Romans 13:11-12]
I hope you’ll think on what this lady said? Ask yourself “am I a see you when I need you” church person? Our time on earth is short and what we do for the Kingdom of God must be done now!
