The Night Before Easter
“And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.” Mark 16:5-6 (KJV)
Tomorrow we celebrate the resurrection, knowing that Jesus is alive. But think about those who watched Him beaten, tortured and die. What about the disciples who grieved their friend & teacher? Take a moment to put yourself in their place. To see a man you believed in, your teacher, your friend is dead! See through their eyes, all they hoped for was stripped away.
Most of the time we focus on His resurrection, without really meditating on what His death meant to those around Him. The loss, the confusion and the fear, would have devastated them.
Before you enter into the celebration of Easter, remember the night before. Sit with them in your mind, and then the resurrection will have a whole new dynamic for you.
Never forget, even though you think all is lost, and your world seems to be ending; if you believe, there will be a resurrection.
