I Voted, Did You?

I Voted Did You

Today is a day set aside for “All persons, over the age of 18, born or naturalized United States Citizens” to VOTE and I am proud to be one of those people.

Today, I could not help but think back to my grandfather and the risk he took to give me this freedom. My grandfather was an immigrant. He came to this country at the turn of the century, with his family on a cattle boat from Armenia. They had just about nothing but the clothes on their backs. His family fled their homeland because the Turks were massacring the Armenian people. Although he was a young boy, he had an enormous appreciation for this country. My grandfather not only had this appreciation, but also felt he owed a real debt to America for accepting him and his family. My grandmother, also an Armenian immigrant, so believed in the American dream, she worked for many years to earn her status as an American Citizen. Together, their hard work and determination created my path of freedom, and my privilege to vote today.

I hope today, you have taken the time to appreciate this freedom provided to us through the sacrifices of our forefathers and our soldiers.
