What Brings You Peace?
I’m sure you’ve known people who spare no expense seeking peace. They purchase a new home, car or motorcycle. They rent mountain cabins, a beach condo or lake house. There are those who try to find peace through alcohol, drugs or relationships. Yet nothing they do brings long-lasting peace. Why can’t these people find peace? Because if peace is obtained in the world, it can be taken away by the world.
Are you one of those people seeking peace from the world? In order to find real peace, you only need to look within. It is the Spirit of the Lord that brings eternal peace. To obtain this, you must be in proper relationship with, and have total confidence in God. There is no room for doubt.
In Acts, Paul proved he could be content in any circumstance. After being thrown in prison, instead of complaining, he sang and remained confident in God.
Biblical peace is not the absence of trouble, it’s just not affected by circumstances. Real peace comes through the Holy Spirit. Even when you’re in the middle of relentless tribulations, you can have peace. Peace is a state of mind that is not touched by what happens in life.
The enemy works very hard to create conflict in your heart and mind. It is the lack of trust in God that brings about wars, struggles, depression and bitterness in our lives. If peace has been taken from you, then you’ve allowed something else to take control. It’s time for you to learn to trust that God is in control of all of life’s circumstances.
An art gallery once offered a prize for the best painting on Peace. Many artists submitted their scenes of peace and tranquility. However, the top prize was a giant waterfall, with a tree hanging over the furious waters. Partly covered by the leaves of the tree is a little bird resting in her nest. Peace is not the absence of storms, but tranquility amidst storms.
If you allow it, the peace of God will be with you during good times and bad times. If you want the Peace that surpasses all understanding, you must seek God during all situations. Remember, Jesus is called the Prince of Peace.
