The Manger
Everyone talks about the story of Christ’s birth during this season, but I want to focus this post on the importance of The Manger.
Luke 2:11-12 “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
The Manger was nothing more than a trough, an open box in a stable designed to hold feed for livestock. The manger was not a place of great applause, it wasn’t a place of comfort or beauty. The manger was a place where the servants came, not the Lord of the House.
Although Jesus Christ was born in a manger, He is truly the Lord of the house. God chose the manger very carefully. His son, the King of King and Lord of Lords, would be laid in a place where animal’s received their substance for life, a place where servants came to work.
God is looking for servants, not those that are looking for applause. The master of the house is looking for those who aren’t afraid to shovel through life’s mess and get the job done.
Many people wonder what God was thinking allowing his son to be born in such a lowly place. God was thinking about You! He wanted to give a gift to all of mankind, no matter their position in society. He wanted to give You access into His Kingdom.
In His birth, Jesus echoed from the manger for all of eternity “come unto me all of you that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”
Oh what power and what substance God gave to us from that dusty manger!
